I must have de-cluttered the attic at least four times over the last few years but it seems to creep back. This time I had twelve bin bags of junk and three charity bags. I took a tougher approach this time and actually let go of some things that I realised I kept around just because of a memory they stimulated. A prime example being "Badger's poorly rug". Whenever our dear departed pet was feeling under the weather he had a black sheepskin rug that he liked to lie on. We didn't even have it on the floor in use but got it out especially for him. I decided that I didn't need the actual rug to remember him by.
Our Daughter wouldn't let go of many of her childhood momentos and came up with a crafty way of preserving paper items. There is a wooden box with a hinged lid that is trapped under the curve of the chimney breast. It was too heavy for me to lift out and so the lid could only be opened enough to fit a sheet of paper through. She busily "posted" vast quantities of junior schoolwork before I could persuade her to only keep things that she had drawn or written herself not just coloured in or filled in a blank. That is a job for another time, purging that box.
Badger, at least ten years ago. I liked that clover that we used to get on the lawn but it no longer appears. The garden has matured so much that the fences are hidden now.
