I used to work for the owner of this pier. I didn't work on the pier, what fun that would have been, but for one of his other businesses. Eventually he had to demolish it as nothing he ran past the council suited them. For many years I could see the decking, in storage, from my office window. I bet it has been eagerly snapped up with the fashion for decking in gardens. Thanks to DaveAndrew for the photo. Clicking on the image will enlarge it a little.More photo's of it in it's hey day can be found Here
There is a page here http://www.engineering-timelines.com/scripts/engineeringItem.asp?id=650 about the pier. I thought it was demolished in the early 90's but this page says the 80's, my how time flies. I could probably pin point it if I dug out some old diaries.
