Christmas and The Sims

I was asked if their was a cheating way to make santa visit in The Sims (1). The non cheating way can be a bit random in that you might have all the criteria in place such as a fireplace, cookies etc. but he still might not arrive. You also have to do battle with your servo, if you have one, constantly tidying away the cookies. From my list of Sims tips and cheats I offer this.

Put a Christmas tree, a plate of cookies and a fireplace in a room, then enable the move_objects on code. Delete your Sims before midnight. When Santa visits, he will give you one big present which should be someting of use rather than just enhancing your meters, then he will start filling the house with presents. After he has given as many presents as there are Sims,  click on your Sims so they reappear in your house. The game might freeze if you do not click them back into the house. Santa should continue to add even more presents to the house. The point of the presents is that when they are unwrapped they boost your happiness.

Super Foods interview

Whilst checking my visitor stats I came a cross an excellent interview with Steven Pratt Here. I haven't worked on the Super Foods project for a while and indeed haven't consumed much in the way of super foods. Could be why I have no energy, have a rash, dry skin and a general case of the blaaahs.

The sims Please insert correct cd

Some time ago I mentioned that my computer would no longer play The Sims and that it just informed me that it could not locate the cd, even though the cd was in the correct drive and was not damaged in any way. Maxis sent yards and yards of help information, none of which helped. I trawled and trawled all over the internet, looking for a solution, probebly anyone reading this has done much the same. I bought The Sims 2 so that my daughter could still get her Sims fix via the more powerful laptop but we still yearned for the original sims, with all the expansion packs and all our quirky little characters and houses. Like Red Dwarf and its crew, or our big Brother House and the contestants that included President Bush, Tony Blair, Jordan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Cher. Rimmer is very bad at looking after parrots by the way, and it's true that Lister can't play the guitar! Imagine my horror when, after shelling out for a new pc when the old one finally died, at being presented with the same message. I gazed open mouthed, stunned, horrified, as I had blamed the problem on the old, dying PC. I think the shock of it totally emptied my brain and left room for the solution to burst upon me. A solution that Maxis should be yelling from the rooftops and dropping leaflets out of airplanes. A solution that doesn't involve scary fiddling about with all that technical stuff that lies deep within the computer and just takes a bit of time and cheering....sorry next door neighbours that I had to yell the house down everytime I got another expansion pack to work....think yourselves lucky that I didn't force you to come and admire each one like I did my Daughter and her friends. My solution to the "cannot locate cd" error message is based on the fact that I have The Sims Deluxe and all expansion packs.

Cleaning Frenzy

My Dad went away for a few days over the weekend and I let myself into his house and cleaned for six hours. I was shattered but a bit worried that he would be affronted. He only made a brief inspection while I was there and was surprised that I had removed a stain on the bathroom sink that he thought was immovable. I thought it prudent, for the sake of his breakables, not to introduce him to the concept of hammering calcified stains off with a sharp instrument and let him think that I have a particularly powerful brand of elbow grease. Later on, when I had left, he made a more thorough inspection and agreed that I may clean his house every week!

Limeade

I haven't visited Hi Monkey for a long time. The recipe for Limeade made me chuckle, especially at the tasteful presentation towards the end.

I have given up on my original Morecambe Sands site. I had lots of recipes etc. stored there and now they won't display. I sense a revamp of this blog coming on to accommodate the sort of things I used to put on the first site. A bit of button making is called for I think.

Morecambe Pier

I used to work for the owner of this pier. I didn't work on the pier, what fun that would have been, but for one of his other businesses. Eventually he had to demolish it as nothing he ran past the council suited them. For many years I could see the decking, in storage, from my office window. I bet it has been eagerly snapped up with the fashion for decking in gardens. Thanks to DaveAndrew for the photo.
