I forgot to report in my visit to the new wool shop in The Plaza in Morecambe. I have visited a few times and they have a good selection of yarns including the new "bigga" and some other novelty yarns. I was very pleased to see a good range of colours in 4ply. They also sell a few craft articles and cross stitch kits but I didn't see any threads (floss). But The Little Shop Of Hobbies more than makes up for that. At the moment they don't take cards so I was scrabbling about a bit for cash as I tend to just carry a switch card. They didn't have a large selection of patterns but some shops only have a large selection because they are so old Roger Moore is modelling on them. yes indeed, he did used to model for knitting patterns.
Added a few year later - I notice this post is turning up on searches and I am sorry to add that this wool shop closed down quite a while ago. The Little Shop Of Hobbies sells a small selection of yarn, as does the haberdashers a few doors down. There is also a stall in the market behind the old railway station.
I am coming over to Morcambe in the next few weeks and I really need 4ply on the cones for knitting machines. Does anyone have any idea as to where I can get these cones?

Visited the shop and was most impressed with the friendly and helpful service. The wool range was very good and they have a lot of patterns. They will order anything not in stock if they can, nothing seems to be too much trouble. I have found out they now have a website www.barbaraswools.com I would advise anyone to visit and you too should be impressed, and wish the owners all the best for the future.
