I had given up on ever obtaining one of the out of print Alice Starmore fair isle books. They are available at auctions and some out of print book sites but cost hundreds of pounds. I was poking about on a book site, like you do, and came across one of her original handbooks being offered for over three hundred pounds. So ridiculous that I ignored it and moved on. Luckily for me I did. The very next offering was the same book for twenty five pounds. I was astonished and flew to hit the buy button before it vanished. Last night I dreamt that it arrived and was not even about knitting, intermingled of course with some weirdness about driving a bus down a snowy hillside and concreting a path, now what's that about I wonder? Anyway, I awoke from an assortment of daft dreams to the sound of something solid and heavy being pushed through the letter box. I can hardly believe that I am now the proud owner of a mint condition 1990 Alice Starmore. Needless to say the one at three hundred and odd pounds is still there, as is one at £139 on another site.
