Morecambe

I have been practising fair isle, in the round, knitting with the wool in my right hand and my left hand. I started off weaving but wasn't happy with the bumpy look. I decided to follow Wendy's advice and strand (float) the wool.
I liked the rhythm of weaving but found that simply stranding the wool gave a smoother result. Now all I have to do is adapt an Alice Starmore pattern I have in mind to available yarn. Hmmm, might take some doing. I believe there used to be conversion charts posted on the internet but she had them taken down. Presumably that means that the yarn she sells can be adapted to her patterns for which the yarn has been discontinued. I shall investigate. Sounds too easy.

Once I get my self sorted out a bit better I will use this blog in a more organised way, paying particular attention to tracking my craft projects. To this end I am experimenting with a notify button in the side bar.

Prize Dimwit

I feel a bit of a fool. I got it into my head that I really, really, needed to own an Alice Starmore book to create a gorgeous fair isle. I moved heaven and earth to obtain one. Scouring book shops, scouring Amazon, bidding on e-bay until finally I tracked one down and had it shipped from America. Don't get me wrong, it is a stunning book and I am very pleased with it but if I had done my research a bit more thoroughly I might have unearthed the fact that most of the yarn used in the book was discontinued more or less as they were printing the book. Add to that some sort of war that has been going on about yarn substitution and copyright that makes it nearly impossible to recreate the garments. Thank goodness that someone outbid me for the last one I bid for on e-bay. Lesson learned. This, The Alice Chronicles should be compulsory reading before bidding on e-bay.

A Little ticked off

I like "typepad" but I am a bit ticked off that even though you pay for it you have to put up with the very limited choice of templates and layouts. Many many sites let you alter the look for free. I don't feel I will use this enough to upgrade to paying double that I do now just so I can jiggle with the templates. As I say, I like Typepad but maybe I was a bit rash lashing out. I must set some time aside to exploring it more, maybe I have missed something...I just can't believe you have to put up with these colours and columns that don't quite work very well in some browsers.
