Barrow Pie and Mushies

I came across a photo blog today that I found interesting, Pie and Mushies. Barrow is the largest town on Morecambe Bay and although it's not far, as the crow flies, from Morecambe, it's a long drive around of about fifty miles. Every now and again there is talk of building a bridge across but even with my limited technical knowledge I would imagine the cost of a twelve mile bridge to be astronomical. Pie and Mushies has an interesting photo of a somewhat smaller bridge, the High Bridge on Michaelson road, connecting Barrow Island to the town centre.Barrow bridge

Little Cotton Rabbits and some stunning crayons

Little Cotton Rabbits is my blog of the day. Where to start? The stunning knitted cupcake gallery or the Free patterns page?. New_crayonsI've been writing about the knitting projects over on Knitting By The Sea but the project on making your own crayon shapes was more suited for here. The photo's made me want to scour the house for old crayons to bake and chill into wonderful shapes but that would mean venturing into places I'd rather not examine. My daughter has an extensive "old pens" collection, possibly running into the thousands, which no doubt will contain a few hundred old crayons, but I don't want to confront the collection and start giving out lectures on clutter and hoarding. It's her hoard, let her store it.

Wainwright's Lakeland Fells

Big_cave_to_nab_scar It's a long time since I did any fell walking but this site on Wainwright has lots of lovely photo's to make you long to be out on the fells. This picture reminds me of the time I was on a walk with a number of work colleagues and their familys on Loughrigg. The children knew there was supposed to be a cave on the route and kept up a fairly constant "are we near the cave yet" but we never did find it. If only we'd had a Wainwright guide.

Brute force solution

Recently I read an article by Steve Pavlina which made me sit up and take notice. He pointed out that being industrious isn't necessarily hard work, but means working hard. Until he explained it I don't think I really saw the difference but now I see that I put off some jobs because I think of them as hard work when actually they are easy jobs but need to be worked hard at. This quote from his article sums it up for me, "How many problems do you have on your to do list right now that can be solved with the simple application of industry? Sometimes you don’t need to be particularly creative or clever about it — a brute force solution will do. But it’s easy to get stuck in a pattern of wishing that a brute force solution wasn’t necessary. It’s tedious. It’s boring. It’s not that important anyway. And yet it still needs to be done". In other words, get the hec on with it and move on. I spend too long in the planning stage and then procrastinate in the execution of the plan.

Cats In Sinks

Rotator Spend a pleasant few minutes admiring Cats in Sinks. The site is part of the Kitten Wars , another pleasant time waster whilst waiting for your teacake to toast.

The Blonde Librarian has done a wonderful colour conversion of Teresa Wentzler's Tempest in a Teacup. She has permission from Teresa to share the conversion. So scoot on over and look at her very generous gift.

Button Excitement

I read Vash's Stitching Site whenever Bloglines tells me that it has been updated. I usually click a few of her links as well and today I noticed that she had added my button! I was so excited to see the button I made actually being used that I took a screen shot of it for posterity. Clicking the imagine will enlarge it.

Kitchen Contraptions

Oh dear, as if I don't already have a cupboard full of unused gadgets.I came across Kitchen Contraptions whilst researching doughnut makers. Darling Daughter enjoyed these on holiday but if I am honest with myself I know that it is just me that is fancying one. I will resist, the cupboards are full.
