I watched Diets that Time Forgot the other day and they mentioned that womens waists have increased by ten inches since about 100 years ago. This video about sweaters made me remember that little factoid, and this isn't even as long ago as a hundred years.

Well, in the old days ladies had to wear corsets or girdles, which contributed to those tiny waists.
